Situation Update on Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton is the thirteenth named storm in the Atlantic Basin this season. Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Keys in Sarasota county (Florida state) during the afternoon of 9 October as a category 3 hurricane. The storm moved quickly across central Florida and exited into the Atlantic Ocean near Cape Canaveral by the morning of 10 October. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a State of Emergency in 51 Florida counties; FEMA has also declared 51 counties disaster areas. Evacuation orders are in place in 35 counties. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has declared a State of Emergency in 38 Georgia counties. At least 19 tornado touchdowns were reported in Florida during Milton's passage, some of which caused significant structural damage.
