Situation Update
Exercise caution in the coming hours following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake at around 13.20 (local time) in Myanmar on 28 March. According to the US Geological Survey, the tremblor originated nine miles (16km) north-north-west of Sagaing city (Sagaing region) at a depth of approximately six miles (10km). The earthquake was felt in parts of China and Thailand, including in Yunnan province and Bangkok, respectively. Some infrastructure damage has been reported in both Myanmar and Thailand, with sources indicating several buildings were evacuated. Operations at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) have also been impacted.Our Advice
- Expect aftershocks, which can cause further damage to already weakened structures. Do not re-enter damaged buildings.
- Expect disruption to infrastructure in the affected area and plan journeys avoiding these locations.
