What Work Health and Safety laws apply?
Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws aim to reduce risks to workers' health, including mental health. Starting 1 October 2022, new rules will be in place for managing psychosocial hazards in Australia.
It’s important to identify and address risks that could lead to physical or psychological harm to create a safe, healthy, and productive workplace. Employers and PCBUs (Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking) are responsible for managing these risks effectively. The Work Health and Safety Act 2011 includes both physical and psychological health in its definition of health.
Additionally, other laws, including those on criminal behaviour, anti-discrimination, and privacy, may apply to issues like bullying, disability discrimination, and handling personal information.
